Time to refresh your driving skills
Help to keep yourself and others safe by refreshing your skills with an advanced driving course.
Many collisions on the road occur as a result of bad driving habits that have been picked up over the years.
Advanced drivers have a proven lower risk of accidents and a course of lessons will provide you with greater skill and knowledge to help avoid dangerous situations.
Hertfordshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit is running two five week advanced driving courses in Baldock and Hoddesdon.
The Baldock course starts on November 3. The classes will be held at Brandles School, Weston Way, Baldock on Mondays from 7 to 9pm.
The Hoddesdon course starts on November 4. The classes will be held at The John Warner School, Stanstead Road, Hoddesdon on Tuesdays from 7 to 9pm.
A practical assessment and demonstration drive for both courses will be held on Sunday November 30. The practical assessment is run in partnership with the North Herts / South Beds group of RoSPA Advanced Drivers & Riders Association (RoADAR), with demonstration drives by Hertfordshire Police Instructors.
County Councillor Stuart Pile, Executive Member for Highways, Transport and Rural Affairs, said: “With the ever increasing volumes of traffic on the roads, there’s no better time to improve your driving ability.
“Advanced drivers are 50 per cent less likely to be involved in a collision, which means they can get better deals from some insurance companies. What’s more, because they drive more smoothly, they drive more economically and save wear and tear on their vehicles.”
The course costs £50, which includes all textbooks and the practical assessment, with a concession rate of £40 for students and people who are retired, unemployed or receiving benefits.
